Media & Technology Policy

Media & Technology Policy

I use technology in a variety of different ways to enhance the musical education the student receives.  In order to do this, I may use any, or all, of these items during the course of a lesson.

 

  • Laptop – with internet access & camera

  • Mobile Phone – with internet access & camera

  • Tablet – with internet access & camera

  • Digital Camera – with video function

  • Digital audio recorder

 

I may use these technologies in a variety of ways to enhance the learning experience, such as:

 

  • Music apps for theory, scale training, aural training etc

  • Recording a piece for the student to appraise their own performance

  • Take photos to show poor/good posture and hand position

  • Take video for the student to appraise their own performance

  • Use the internet to research composers, listen to recordings, provide background and inspiration related to the students’ set pieces

  • Use the internet to search for new materials to be provided by either student or teacher

 

In addition, I would like to use these technologies to:

 

  • Record a piece or composition in celebration of their performance

  • Take photos to celebrate an achievement – i.e. finished a book, passed an exam, performed in a concert etc.

  • Take video in celebration of their performance

  • Take photos, videos, recordings for marketing purposes*

 

*Marketing purposes may include, posting to my business Website, Facebook & Twitter page, for use in hardcopy advertising materials, for use on my business YouTube Channel.

 

Permission

 

I require permission to use media and technology in my lessons.  I will ask each student to sign a media and technology form giving permission for:

 

  • Taking audio recordings of the student performing for appraisal purposes – to be shared within the course of the lesson with the student and then deleted.

  • Taking photographs for student for visual appraisal – to be immediately emailed to the student (or their parents if student is 18 or under) and immediately deleted from my device(s) and email

  • Taking video of the student for visual appraisal – to be immediately emailed to the student (or their parents if student is 18 or under) and immediately deleted from my device(s) and email

  • Record a performance for celebration purposes and shared with the student and their parents via email/ in person – and immediately deleted from my device(s) and email

  • Photograph the student for celebration purposes and shared with the student and their parents via email/ in person – and immediately deleted from my device(s) and email

  • Video the student for celebration purposes and shared with the student and their parents via email/ in person – and immediately deleted from my device(s) and email

 

Marketing purposes:

 

Any recording, photograph or video that I would like to publish on my business Website, Facebook, Twitter or YouTube channel, will be agreed with the student and/or parents/guardians on a case by case basis at the time of sharing via email/in person.  Permission will be in writing and for the stated purpose only.  If permission is denied, then they will be immediately deleted from all devices and email.

 

Storage of digital copies:

 

Storage of such materials will be in a password protected folder and will be kept unless a request for such materials to be deleted is received from the student/parents/guardians.

 

Devices:

 

If you wish me not to use the above listed devises with internet access, during the students’ lesson, please inform me in writing.
